The covered entity (CE), OrthoAtlanta, reported that its business associate (BA) experienced a ransomware attack that compromised the protected health information (PHI) of approximately 5,600 individuals. The PHI involved included names, dates of birth, addresses, drivers’ license numbers, and claims and treatment information. The CE notified HHS, affected individuals, the media, and posted substitute notification on its website. In its mitigation efforts, the CE strengthened its administrative and technical safeguards to better protect its sensitive data.
