Serco Group Health Plan, the covered entity (CE), reported that its business associate (BA) experienced a ransomware attack and data breach that compromised the protected health information (PHI) of 10,140 individuals. The PHI involved included names, addresses, Social Security numbers, and birthdates. The CE notified HHS, affected individuals, and the media. In its mitigation efforts, the BA implemented additional administrative, technical, and security safeguards to better protect its sensitive data.
