Seattle Cancer Care Alliance

Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA), the covered entity (CE), reported that an employee emailed an invitation to a patient education event and exposed the email addresses of all patients involved. The breach affected 944 individuals. In response to the breach, the covered entity conducted an internal investigation and sanctioned all workforce members involved. SCCA notified OCR, all affected individuals, and the media. Additionally, SCCA revised its policies and procedures to include guidance pertaining to the secure transmission of email communications.
