Resource Anesthesiology Associates of KY, the covered entity (CE), reported that its business associate (BA) experienced a cyber-attack that compromised the protected health information (PHI) of 8,980 individuals. The PHI involved included names, addresses, dates of birth, drivers’ license numbers, Social Security numbers, claims and financial information, diagnoses/conditions, and medications prescribed. The CE notified HHS, affected individuals, the media, and provided substitute notice. The BA strengthened it administrative, technical, and security safeguards to better protect sensitive data.
