Planned Parenthood of Metro Washington

The covered entity (CE), Planned Parenthood of Metro Washington, reported that it was the subject of a ransomware attack that affected the protected health information (PHI) of 142,982 individuals. The PHI involved included names, addresses, dates of birth, medical record numbers, diagnoses, medications prescribed, lab results, health insurance information, Social Security and driver’s license numbers, financial information, and other treatment information. The CE notified HHS, affected individuals, the media, and provided substitute notice. In its mitigation efforts, the CE implemented additional administrative, technical, and security safeguards to better protect its PHI.
