The covered entity (CE), Penn Medicine, reported that an unencrypted laptop containing protected health information (PHI) was stolen from an employee. This breach affected 1,050 individuals and the protected health information (PHI) involved included names, dates of birth, claims information, and treatment information. As a result of the breach, the CE implemented additional administrative and security safeguards and retrained its staff on the importance of patient privacy and safeguarding PHI.
