Palm Springs Anesthesia Services

The covered entity (CE), Palm Springs Anesthesia Services, reported that its business associate (BA) experienced a ransomware attack that affected the protected health information (PHI) of 58,411 individuals. The PHI involved included names, addresses, dates of birth, drivers’ license and Social Security numbers, claims and financial information, diagnoses, medications prescribed, and other treatment information. The CE notified HHS, affected individuals, the media, and provided substitute notice. In its mitigation efforts, the BA strengthened its administrative, technical, and security safeguards to better protect PHI.
