Meigs County Emergency Medical Services

The covered entity (CE), Meigs County Emergency Medical Services, reported that an employee was the target of an email phishing scheme that affected the protected health information (PHI) of 5,802 individuals. The PHI involved included names, addresses, social security numbers, dates of birth, drivers’ license numbers, claims and financial information, diagnoses/conditions, medications, and other treatment information. The CE notified HHS, affected individuals, and the media. In its mitigation efforts, the CE enhanced its system activity monitoring, increased its workforce security awareness training, and revised its policies and procedures to better protect its PHI.
