KEMET Electronics Corporation, the covered entity (CE), reported that it experienced a ransomware attack that compromised the protected health information (PHI) of 2,927 individuals. The PHI involved included names, dates of birth, diagnoses, claims and financial information, and health insurance information. The CE notified HHS, affected individuals, and the media. In response to the breach, the CE implemented additional administrative and technical safeguards and retrained its staff to better protect PHI.
