Hamlin & Burton Liability Management

Hamlin & Burton Liability Management, the business associate (BA), reported that one of its employees was the victim of an email phishing scheme that affected the electronic protected health information (ePHI) of 1,565 individuals. The ePHI involved included names, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, diagnoses, and other treatment information. The BA notified HHS, affected individuals, and provided complimentary credit monitoring services to those affected. In its mitigation efforts, the BA implemented additional technical safeguards to better protect its ePHI. OCR obtained assurances that the BA implemented the corrective actions noted.
