Columbus Regional Healthcare System

Columbus Regional Medical Center, the covered entity (CE), reported that it was the subject of a ransomware attack that compromised the protected health information (PHI) of 132,887 individuals. The PHI involved included names, addresses, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, drivers’ license and state identification numbers, passport numbers, diagnoses, financial and health insurance information, medications, and other treatment information. The CE notified HHS, affected individuals, and the media. In its mitigation efforts, the CE offered free credit monitoring services and implemented additional administrative and technical safeguards.
