CDC Dental Management dba Kids Care Dental & Orthodontics, the covered entity (CE), reported that it experienced a ransomware attack that compromised the protected health information (PHI) of 1,286 individuals. The PHI involved included names, addresses, dates of birth, Social Security and drivers’ license numbers, claims and financial information, medications, diagnoses, and additional treatment information. The CE notified HHS, affected individuals, the media, and posted substitute notice on its website. As a result of OCR’s investigation, the CE implemented additional administrative and technical safeguards.
