Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Newark

Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Newark, the covered entity (CE), reported that it experienced a hacking attack that affected the protected health information (PHI) of 9,895 individuals. The PHI involved included names, dates of birth, addresses, social security and drivers’ license numbers, medications, and lab results. The CE notified HHS, affected individuals, the media, and posted substitute notice on its website. In its mitigation efforts, the CE implemented additional technical safeguards to better protect PHI.
