Card processor intrusion exposes up to 40 million payment cards
MasterCard revealed that an intruder had infiltrated the network of payment processor CardSystems Solutions and may have stolen up to 40 million card numbers of all brands. The FTC later charged that the processor kept card data it had no reason to keep and stored it insecurely.
