Cadence Aerospace, the covered entity (CE), reported that one of its subsidiaries was the victim of a ransomware attack that affected the electronic protected health information (ePHI) of approximately 747 individuals. The ePHI involved included names, addresses, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, and financial and health insurance information. Prior to the start of the investigation, OCR determined that Cadence’s subsidiary was not a covered entity and therefore, not subject to the HIPAA Rules.
